3ds Max Track Importer for No Limits 2
Hey everyone,
version 1.4 of my script has just been released. It comes with textured track and the ability to colorize it in NoLimits:

Also 2 new track styles were added:
Meisho:

Vekoma Junior Boomerang:

you can get it here:
How long does the free trial of 3ds max last?
I would love to use this but I'm broke and can't afford nl2 pro
I tried to download the free trial but it needs credit card info.
Hey, i had the Idea of adding the Senyo Kogyo Steel Coaster nTrack found on Diving Coaster Vanish at Yokohama Cosmoworld.
https://rcdb.com/1290.htm
Hi, I'm new to NL2 and also to 3dsMax. I'm trying to use the script but when I try to open the CSV file there's an error (Obsolete data format found. The file may be saved with a previous release. -- please resave file. ) and after this error, the coaster layout in 3dsMax seems very strange and out of scale.
Hopefully, someone can help me, thank you for the support!
@ Iseneau27: Good idea, I'll include it in the next release
@ fpatrao: The error shouldn't be a problem. That's caused by me using an older version of 3ds Max. Just click ok. What version of the plugin are you using? I fixed the scaling issue a few versions ago. Could you post a screenshot of the problem?
@ PvM, Is it much effort on your part to rework your script for use in Fusion 360? A friend and I may attempt to tackle the project, or at least find out if we have the understanding for it. Fusion scripts can be programmed with python or C++. The goal is to go straight to parametric software to prep for 3d printing. If you have any thoughts or input on that, I'd appreciate it.
Hey Kadske. Unfortunately I don't have access to Fusion 360. Also I don't think it would work. My script is written in MaxScript and it uses 3ds Max specific functions and methods. From the looks of it, Fusion 360 works very differently. Both Fusion and Max are Autodesk products though which means file formats are very interchangeable. If this is a one time project, why don't you just create the geometry in Max and export it to Fusion for further refinement?
If you do want to write something in Python though, what my plugin does is the following:
- It reads the data from the CSV export of NoLimits and manipulates it a bit to fit the coordinates in 3ds Max. It then puts the data in an array.
- it then merges the selected track template to your scene and copies the geometry for every line in the array and transforms the geometry in place.
- Finally it attaches all the rail and backbone pieces into one object and creates a surface through all the cross sections.
The plugin knows what to do based on the names given to the objects and the type of objects in the template.
@Pvm, Thank you for your reply! I was, in fact, using an old version (I think the first one). I tried the latest version 1.4 and it worked very nice.
Thank you again for your help!
@Pvm, thank you for putting this one the Plan. I wanted to make a pleasure for everyone who can buy 3DSMax and NL2 pro.
A new version is out that once again fixes a couple of issues that arose in the last version.
- hopefully fixed the UVW-mapping problems
- added the option to generate mapping coordinates for track styles with the rails on the inside of the ties.
- added 3 track styles: Senyo Kogyo, Vekoma STC and special thanks go to Tyrush for providing an accurate model for the Intamin MK2
- Updated all the templates to 3ds Max 2021
Because of the update to 3ds Max 2021 though, previous versions of Max aren't directly supported anymore. If you want to use an old version of 3ds Max, you'd have to use the templates from version 1.4. The new script will still run however.
Added track styles:
Intamin Pantheon Track (MK2) (With special thanks to Tyrush for providing the base model)

Senyo Kogyo Dive Coaster:

Vekoma Suspended Thrill Coaster:

Got around to figuring out how this works and it is truly a powerful addition to Nolimits. I messed around and was able to make different spines for the mega coaster track style. Here is an example of what you can do with the presets available. It did not take much time to fiddle around and make this double spine track based on the presets.

And here you can see all 3 types of track and how nice the transitions look

That's looking really epic! Great example of how the plugin is intended to be used. If you want to fix the smoothed ends of your spine, go into element editing mode and select the spine. Then find the auto smooth button in the menu on the right hand side. Alternatively, add a 'smooth' modifier and hit auto smooth on that one.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

@Dechlave: Did you get the latest version and still get this problem? If so, under the customize drop down menu, change all units to meters. Else, get the latest version from the first post of this topic.
@Club Coaster: Did you follow the instructions that come with the readme? Every file you need is in a specific folder structure that I set up for ease. If you deviate from this then you have to relink all the models and textures in the scene object and material files.
@PvM No, I have the 1.4 version on 3D Max 2018. Is there a way to fix it without the new version?
Try setting the units in 3ds max to metric. That fixed this problem for me. Let me know if it doesn't.
Still not working properly. Any other suggestions?
I think I might have figured out the 2021 download for 3ds Max... once it's finished I'm going to try to download the 1.5 version and go from there.

3DS MAX is free. Yes it is free. The student version is free for 3 or 5 years for non-commercial use. Even the latest version : https://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/3ds-max
