Let's get started on planning out Five Hours of Power IV! For those who aren't familiar, this is a timed contest where everyone in the world competes at the same time, trying to build a coaster that meets certain criteria in just 5 hours. The contest template is posted at the start of the contest, and your submission must be built and uploaded in less than 5 hours. A live tour of the park map and reveal of the rules occurs 30 minutes before the contest. It's intense, crazy, and tons of fun. For non-participants, it's still fun to watch the live streams of lots of talented builders toiling away and to watch Code waste time.

The contest will take place Saturday, July 14th, from 11 am Eastern US time (17:00 Central European Time) to 4 pm Eastern US time (22:00 Central European Time). We hoped to get as much participation as possible, but also recognize that school, work, vacations, real life, and plenty of other things may limit everyone's availability. We apologize in advance that we can't find a time that works for everyone on the planet.

So with that said, let's start discussing availability. If you are interested, what are some weekend dates that work for you? Post a lot of options so we can set the date well in advance to maximize the contests.

PLEASE RENAME THE CONTEST FILE WITH YOUR NAME!!!

Late submissions will be disqualified.

The Challenge
You must build a steel coaster with a capacity greater than 1800 riders per hour within the designated build area.

Quick rules:

  • Build one steel coaster of any style with a minimum hourly capacity over 1800 riders per hour.
  • Minimum one lift hill required. (you may also add launches)
  • Max track length 5500 feet/1676,4 meters (including storage track)
  • Storage track sufficient for all trains required
  • No wooden or shuttle coasters.
  • Coaster track, supports, stations, & storage may not touch water, trees, or go beyond the red border.
  • Coaster station building must be within yellow border.
  • You may delete or move trees.
  • Do not change terrain or move contest borders.

Judges will consider creativity, originality, realism, and fun.

Time Rules

  • The 5 hour build period begins on July14th, 2018 at 4:00 PM GMT when the contest park is available for download.
  • You must build one coaster in the provided contest map.
  • You will have until 9:00 PM GMT (5 hours total) to upload your finished park to a file exchange/download/FTP site and fill out the official entry form with the download information, coaster names, your name, and your email address. Allow yourself spare time to upload your coaster and fill out this form.

Boundary Rules

  • The entire coaster, including supports, footers, track, station, and storage buildings must be fully within the red boundry area.
  • The entire station building, including stairs and roof, must be fully within the yellow boundry.
  • Coaster track, supports, and stations may not touch or pass beyond any contest borders, water, or scenery. This evaluation will be made with the coasters in a frozen state in an top down editor view.
  • Terrain cannot be altered.
  • Trees and scenery inside the build area may be deleted.
  • Supports cannot be placed on the water, but your coaster's track and structure can go over.

Capacity Requirement

  • Your coaster must include at least one lift hill. Additional lifts/launches are allowed.
  • Your coaster must acheieve a minimum hourly capacity of 1800 riders per hour.
  • This will be calculated using the provided script object
  • The time it takes 10 trains to pass a specific point will be averaged out and used to calculate the number of trains per hour. This will be rounded down to the nearest whole number, then multiplied by the number of seats on each train
  • Coasters should have realistic dispatch times. For example, it is unrealistic for a Flying Dutchman coaster to unload and load a full train in 15 seconds, and judges will lower the realism score
  • Your coaster must have enough storage to hold all of the trains off the main circuit complete with working transfer or switch/merge track
  • Your coaster must have no more than 5500 feet/1676,4 meters of track, including track used for storage.

Other Rules

  • No custom or pre-packaged scripts can be used on your coaster. Just keep it simple.
  • Any submission not using the template and/or submissions built prior to the contest will be disqualified.
  • You can only use NoLimits 2 and entities packaged with it - no custom 3D scenery, environments, or cartextures.
  • One entry per person. If you upload more than one entry, we will only consider the last one entered.
  • Please include your name in the file name submission.

What time of the year (roughly) are you planning to hold the contest, that’s probably a good starting point and then we can find a date around then that works for most, if not all.

Well, I could try but it depends of when it'll be held.

This is EXACTLY what I'm asking. When are YOU available for this contest?

You guys say when you can do it, or weekends you specifically can't do it. I'll compile the results. Weekend with most available participants wins.

I’d rather have the contest in the dead of summer, since last year’s was in August when college was picking up so I couldn’t participate. I imagine a June or July weekend would be enough time to spread word and polish up the final details of this year’s challenge.

May 12, 19, 26, June 23 & 30, July 21 & 28, Aug 11 & 18 would work for me. Of those, I think June 23rd looks the best for whatever reason.

Would be best if it was in winter, like a few day past Christmas and before new year. I don't want to sit inside when it's summer.

^ only problems I can see with that is people may have exams around then, or may have family over for Christmas, especially if there family live far away.

This sounds like fun! I'd be down for any weekend this month (12-13, 19-20, 26-27) and at least the first weekend of June (2-3). Most other weekends are good for me too, but I'm trying to plan some travel and I'm not sure which ones I'll be away.

Any weekend in June will work for me except the weekend of June 2/3. Most weekends in July will work, just a few weekends won't work - I can't recall which they were off the top of my head right now
