Went on a long coaster trip over the past week and was at Cedar Point during the power outage that was all over the news. I can't believe that turned into such a big deal! People who knew I was at CP were blowing me up to find out if I was ok. :D Anyway, I got some footage of folks being led off the MCBR of Gatekeeper as well as a full MF train moving slowly - seemed to be manually - up the lift after it had been stuck for about an hour.

Also made a video of my thoughts on SV if anyone is interested. The ride is insane, obviously, but I personally felt it was almost too much. Can't imagine what it will be like when it breaks in and heats up. I actually had way more fun at Kings Island marathoning on Diamondback later in the week.

I got a chance to ride CYBORG Cyber Spin a couple of times yesterday during pass holder and membership preview and it was alright. Definitely a fun ride, but a short ride cycle. There were some moments of hang time but not nearly enough actual inversions. There does also seem to be a randomness aspect to it but most of the time you're just sideways or rocking back and forth. Overall, it's a good fit for Great Adventure but I would not wait in a long line for it.

I feel like with how short the layout is, they'd have been better of building a Dive Machine. The concept would have worked mi8ch better with a shorter layout.

Don't get me wrong, it looks beautiful, but seems a little underwhelming for a wing...I'm sure it will ride well however.

WOW what an amazing speed, i thing they might to add some kind of MCBR, something to slow this wild thing down.

I just got back from a trip to the USA (from the UK) to visit Cedar Point, as I'd never been before and this year seemed like a great year to do so. I actually wasn't all THAT excited about Steel Vengeance during the construction; people seem to love RMCs, but I felt the one I'd been on before (Joker at SFDK) was pretty overhyped so didn't really get the enthusiasm. That started to turn around a bit when I saw some of the real-life POV footage though. Having now ridden it, I think it could be my favourite rollercoaster. It's absolutely incredible; the elements and manoeuvres are insane, whilst also being perfectly smooth. The layout's great, and honestly it's kind of hard to figure out where you are and what's going on at times it's so crazy. The airtime is crazy, particularly in the back, even in the most unexpected of spots like the double-up into the brake run. There are really only one or two spots that you aren't completely bonkers that you could possibly find a little unexciting, and the momentum really keeps going right up until the brake run - if anything, it gets even wilder towards the end. Managed 3 rides on it over a couple days (with 75, 60 and 45 minute waits, which seemed not too bad given its popularity, 2 train operation (is it intended to run 3 trains?) and somewhat slow RMC loading/opening bugs (and also some people being sick on ride...). I was really, really impressed with it.

Some brief thoughts on other Cedar Point coasters:

Maverick was excellent, and makes a great counterpart to SV. In some ways they're quite similar, with every element on SV feeling like the first hill in Maverick in the back seat. It's a really unique and fairly compact ride - I'm surprised there haven't been some similar installations elsewhere.
Millennium Force is... good. But honestly, I don't quite get the love for it. It's fine, and has some interesting forces in places (mostly positives in the turnarounds) but there's not much going on for a lot of it other than just the speed. It also feels like it's over very quickly.
TTD - Having been on Kingda Ka, not much of a surprise, this one. I think I prefer Kingda Ka, which seems to be an unpopular opinion - although it was a few years since I went on that.
Iron Dragon - Not much to say on it. Not the most exciting Arrow suspended.
Rougarou - really interesting elements and kind of an unusual layout (probably because it wasn't always floorless - I think it'd work better as a stand-up though), but a bit rough and not that enjoyable.
Raptor - really liked this. Quite smooth, but some great forces and classic B&M snaps. My favourite B&M in the park.
Valravn - a little dull. It's fine, but I've been on Sheikra dozens of times, the Shanghai clone a few times, etc. which are almost identical, so not too exciting for me. Baron 1898 was more of an experience, which I tried out a while back.
Blue Streak - fairly fun, nice to have a wooden 'coaster still at the park.
Gatekeeper - I also felt this was a bit on the dull side. And weirdly rattly for a new-ish B&M.
Wicked Twister - Forgettable. Not as exciting as it looks.
Magnum - Quite rough in places, but also really fun.
Gemini - Candidate for replacement soon?..
Corkscrew - Fairly standard.

We also went to Waldameer and tried out Ravine Flyer II which was a really great ride (that highway crossing is unusual!) and Kings Island. I was really impressed with Mystic Timbers - it's much more fun than it looks on POV videos - but I'm glad I knew to manage my expectations for the shed. The Beast was also a great experience, although pretty rough with one of the trains they were running (the other seemed fine, weirdly). Firehawk was my first Vekoma Flying Dutchman, which was an interesting experience; glad I finally made it to one of those just to try one out, although it's nothing particularly special. Banshee I again felt was pretty rattly for a new B&M, but it may have been the rain doing that (the Cedar Fair B&Ms in general seemed weirdly juddery to me for the most part considering their ages). The rest were a mixed bag, with some good (Diamondback being a good B&M hyper, although I prefer SIlverStar) and some less so. Everything was walk on all day due to the weather, but thankfully the predicted storm never materialised, so we got to do everything a bunch of times.

All in all, a pretty successful trip!
