2018
^ "Yeah but it's not DarKastle so boo hoo"
Honestly, I'll have to agree. While I don't think it's as good, it's still one of those rides where I'm seriously interested how it'll turn out, because it certainly looks good. The voice acting is on the rim for me though.
It honestly just looks "Okay" to me. Ill have to see it in person before I judge.
^ I definitely think this will be one of the better VR attractions, but I’m still skeptical. I’m just glad they didn’t try to slap VR on a roller coaster

The rumor was for 2018 Lagoon's 1921 John Miller Classic Wood Coaster would receive new trains. Opening weekend this week confirmed that it it did indeed and it got new GCI Millennium Flyers! So glad that the 40 year old PTC's are gone! The coaster wasn't open this weekend but was testing. It has also has been told that the turns received a bit more banking nothing crazy but slightly more more than they were.
^ That's honestly a shame in my opinion... I prefer the PTCs on classic Woodies like that one.
The track will be happy about the new move.
^^ I feel like PTC Trains help maintain that classic woodie feel - not sure how I feel about the GCI trains
I mean going based solely off of experience with GhostRider I think the trains are an improvement for sure. The headrests are a bit odd though.
^^^^ I can see your point but the PTC trains on it were old and just beaten down. They needed a fresh replacement. I'm happy with the new trains Roller Coaster will be a pleasure to ride again.
^^ Yeah the PTC trains do give it that classic look but the ride experience was beyond tolerable last season.
If they aren't doing a full retrack then the GCI trains might not help much. Especially since they are a lot lighter than PTC trains. It'll be like Gwazi all over again.
^ There have been a ton of track work done. I'd imagine its a full retracking.
Well, it's good to see the park taking care of the coaster and putting millions of dollars into it!
Cedar Point just put up this brief Steel Vengeance teaser. Mercifully, it appears to show that even during crummy weather in April, Steel Vengeance seems to hold its speed reasonably well in the late stages of the layout.
That pacing looks decent, imagine how it's gonna run in mid-July
Energylandia opened Speed, their water coaster, on Monday.
Testing POV:
Edit: I had the wrong date
No, Speed was openend Monday.
I'm still kind of amazed that Intamin has sold any more of those after the Pilgrim's Plunge fiasco. Especially since the two layouts on the more extended, coastery ones (Speed included) look like snoozefests.
I can't help but feel like Intamin designed these things without remembering that the boats would trim going through the first splashdown, its just so slow, meander-y and dull, feels like it was designed to be carrying a bit more speed with it.
Like Verruckt but actually safe.
^ Shots have been fired.
^^ Also yeah I agree that the first hill there looks like it was meant to be a floater speed hill but it goes so slow over it it looks pointless
Of course, the upstops on Intamin's are a T-shaped... thing... (rail?) in the center of the track, along which a plate on the bottom of the boat would slide in the event of airtime, rather than having upstop wheels (like, say, Mack does), so I can't imagine they're actively designing airtime (or really anything fun) into those layouts in the first place. The whole coaster section seems to me to be a ruse to get idiot park owners to pay for "more bang for your buck" when the reality is that "if we hit the water at the speed you come off the first drop, it would suck (see also: Pilgrims Plunge/Giraffica), so... have some coaster track! We'll splash down more slowly, later."
And regardless, you're left with a flume ride that isn't very good at being a flume ride, and also a coaster that isn't very good at being a coaster. All in one not inexpensive package! Yay?
Yukon Quad is opening tomorrow at Le PAL in France!

RE: Speed, given the social nature of water rides, I always think delaying the big splashdown gives a really nice effect. There's also something about a splash coming after a twisty part rather than a large drop that seems more of a surprise to me. And while the coaster part looks slow, watching the massive boats/cars go through this marble-run looking track is strangely satisfying.
If you feel like you're in an oven, I don't think you're really gonna care about whether or not it's a coaster that isn't very good at being a coaster. You'd just be glad to get some moisture on you.

I think a lot of people get a bad stigma from VR because of the ridiculous surge of "VR Coasters" that six flags and other parks carelessly rushed out to bring in guests. In a situation where you're on a fast coaster of really any kind (in my cases, superman and mind eraser at SFNE) you're dealing with low quality footage & low quality headsets which makes for a terrible use of VR, not even to mention the headset shaking like crazy due to the ride.
When you have VR on a simulator that moves smoothly and the visuals seem genuinely interesting and clear, THAT's when people can really appreciate the use of VR. To be honest, I think this will be one of the few solid VR rides out there.
