NL2 Three Blind Mice 2021

Hosted by Amalia, A113

Intro

Friends of the NoLimits Community, we would like to invite you to join NLC’s first official Three Blind Mice in NoLimits 2! The competition was a smash hit dating back to NoLimits 1, and we figured it’s due time to have a go with today’s talents and capabilities.

If you’re not familiar, the format is simple. You are randomly assigned into a group of 3 - 1 track builder, 1 supporter, and 1 themer - with each person given 2 weeks to do their part before passing it along to the next.

The project is kept entirely secret until the 3rd participant uploads to the exchange at the end of their 2 weeks!

Team Selection

In this entry form enter your username, email, and list your preference of the desired role from 1 - 3, with 1 being your top choice. If you have no problem doing any of the 3, you may just state “No Preference.”

You may also state “substitute”, in case we can’t secure a spot for you on a team, and a participant has to back out midway through. You can not be a substitute and also have a role on another team; names will be entered on a first come first serve basis. Please note, by being a substitute you are committing to any of the 3 roles.

All names will be entered into a randomizer and you will be notified of your role after the deadline to enter (info on that down below). We will need your email to share your file to the rest of your team!

Last Thoughts

3BM has frequently popped up in discussions over the years, and we feel the timing couldn't be better for this. Part of the excitement of this contest is the anticipation for the final results, and for those who are familiar with 3BM know how exciting the results can be:

Please let us know if you have any questions below!

good luck friends! elias and I spent basically the whole day brainstorming and this is what we came up with, personally I think its long overdue!

Ok, clarification question:

Track Builder:
-Selects coaster style, car, and train count
-Designs full layout
-Can use block scripts
-Can preliminarily generate terrain
-Can NOT select colors, coaster name
-Can NOT add supports, scenery
-Can NOT show any portion of the ride, in progress or complete, to anyone.
-Uploads unencrypted NL2 Package to submission form provided to them

Supporter:
-Add supports to coaster
-Can modify terrain
-Can NOT modify coaster track or settings
-Can NOT add scenery
-Can NOT show any portion of the ride, in progress or complete, to anyone.
-Uploads unencrypted NL2 package to submission form provided to them

What's the difference between "Can preliminarily generate terrain" and "Can modify terrain?" Does that mean that the track builder can use the terrain generator but isn't allowed to manually modify the terrain?

^ Basically it’s just saying that both track and supports are able to create and/or modify terrain, whatever method suits them.

Tom, we would love to have you as an additional judge for the competition.

That said, happy new year all! The entry form closed and we have 38 entrants signed up. This gives us a total of 12 full teams! We believe this is the most ever for a 3 Blind Mice, even from NL1.

Amalia and I will take the next couple days to review the data and will soon distribute an email detailing your assigned role for the competition.

We are really thrilled with everyone’s turnout and energy, stay tuned!

Gotcha, thanks for the clarification!

Tlans, Just to update we are adjusting the rules where track builders can not touch the terrain at all. We are limiting that scope to supporters only.

Supporters can globally move the coaster vertically as long as the centerline is not modified, and create terrain in addition to adding supports.

Roles assigned, teams locked, and emails sent out!

Everyone should have received an email with subject title “[NLC 3 Blind Mice] Role Assignment”. If you can’t find it, it might have gone into your spam/junk folder.

Please keep your role assignments to yourself to ensure maximum blindness for everyone else. And finally, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me or ItsAmaliaB.

Good luck everyone!

Okay! Sorry for the late update, we successfully received all 12 tracks supported, and all have been distributed to the themers to begin work.

Files are due at the submission form provided. Once judging goes live, themers may upload to NLC exchange!

And that’s a wrap! The deadline just passed and we received all 12 of our themers files. Reminder, that’s 36 participants!!

Amalia and I will internally process the files over the next few days and ready the files for judging by Friday at the latest.

In addition to us two, we will have Ride_Op and Fintamin joining as blind judges for
the competition! They won’t know who is on which team until we reveal the results at the very end... which will be via livestream! Details TBA

Thanks again to everyone for their patience, cooperation, and hard work, we will keep you posted with updates on how the judging is progressing.

Judging is complete!!

It wasn’t easy as all the entries are high quality and the top 5 is super tight.

We are slating next Saturday 3/13/21 @ 12noon PST to host the livestream reveal of all the projects!

Our co judges Fintamin and Ride_Op will not know who is on each team until the reveal. In fact, we plan to show the ride before mentioning who worked on it to keep it fun and have y’all guessing :).

More details on livestream location coming soon. Thanks again to everyone for their patience and enthusiasm, Amalia and I can NOT wait to share these projects and see your reactions!
