Bringing a beloved thread of mine back to life. Enjoy random finds scattered all around the Internet, related to real rides or considered concepts.

I'll start with a patent I just found: Watercraft amusement ride

It looks like Pulsar isn't it?

A water ride, a shuttle, magnetic launch... Yeah, totally! Although... this patent is from 1996.

From this documentary I've yet to watch, member Blue Bumble Bee on Coasterfriends found a familiar sight within the Gerstlauer factory:

Yes, "car textures"!

Now feel free to post your own discoveries, or things we discussed in the previous topic that we sadly lost altogether.

In the original plans/models of Portaventura, Dragon Khan was originally going to be an Arrow looper with intertwining loops.

These pics were discovered by Willy on PA-Community.

I get the feeling the intertwining loops is what gave B&M the idea to add the "threading the needle" moment on DK before the zero g roll.

yesss, its back!
I have a folder on my computer for this stuff to keep as references for projects and just because they're cool.
I'll drop a few here from the old thread and various other places:

I haven't seen it entierly, but this TV show goes at Vekoma, and there are some snippets of their software... including NoLimits of course.

Here's a shot of inside the factory, with the trains for Firestorm (I guess) and Hyper Space Warp at Fantawild (4:51):

The pipe-bending machine (10:57):

This shot shows various layouts: Formula 1, Lech Coaster, Firestrom and Orkanen (5:07):

But also this mysterious one (also on the white board, top right):

Formula 1 (5:19):

Firestorm (7:16):

(7:19)

They are also testing a ride using VR in NL2 and, I don't know if it's a serious concept or a mock-up for the TV show, but look at that (5.41):

That what I thought (and they put a standard lift and sit-down train just for the TV, perhaps), but still, those laterals on the corkscrew type of thing are lethal.

They are talking about it, but I don't speak dutch. Can someone please translate?

Edit: Mystery solved thanks to subtitles and Google Translate. While showing the coaster, he says "ik kan hier een voorbeeld laten zien van een achtbaan die niet fijn zou zijn" which translates to "I can show you an example of a roller coaster that would not be nice"
And he adds, pointing at the elements:
"here you see a bend where you would go in a completely wrong position"
"on the other hand, you have here a rotation that is unnatural"

It is a programm for children. The last coaster is an example of a bad coaster because it has unnatural banking. It makes you dizzy. If you want that i explain more just say it.

I think I got the overall topic, but feel free to explain if there're any details we missed.

About that new layout with a batwing, VHcoasters has already spotted it in various concept-arts. It's called Shockwave. So this model might pop up in...

Istanbul:

Nanjing:

Mexico:

^^ As for the Shockwave vekoma layout, they just released an official animation. Good lord does it look insane with the trench dives!

HNNNNNNNGGGGGGG

Seriously incredible! The first time I watched the animation there was a point (somewhere around the outside-banked hill) where I thought the thing was over, but then it just went on with an S-hill and corkscrew into another trench dive and I was like "wait, it still keeps going?!" And I mean that in a good way! Holy crap, that model has so much airtime it's crazy, but they still managed to put a lot of inversions without destroying the ride's flow. I'll admit I was a little underwhelmed by their Firestorm model (make no mistake though, I still thought that that was really really good but after their Bermuda Blitz model I just thought it didn't quite reach those levels of awesomeness), but this model looks like it might even be better than the Bermuda Blitz!

It looks like Vekoma's really good at providing parks with incredible rides for really cheap prices. In a perfect alternate universe one of these would have already shown up where I live D: Enchanted Kingdom management please get on it? :P

as good as these new vekomas look i cant help but feel like they are quite soulless , they feel very off the shelf, too clean and precise. nothing about it interests me on an enthusiasts level. I feel the same about some new new B&Ms and mack coasters as well. they just dont feel like massive machines anymore they are all very conservative.

^ Yes.

Brett-Jones I don't quite get your point. Too clean, too precise... What's wrong with a design being very polished and not rushed? I find it very satisfying to have a layout that flows perfectly from start to finish, without having some awkward roll transitions or adjustments... And that is also very enjoyable to ride by the way. It reminds me of a circus act where the performer makes it very easy to do, but in hindsight it's still very hard.

I mean, I can get that it's not your style of coaster - it's like music, to each their own. But give them a try if you can. :)

I do really like the look of these coasters, but for instance if you look at pictures of the older B&Ms like nemesis oblivion they are proper MACHINES! a bit of grit and grease visible mechanical parts on display, beefier track sections and more practical supports rather than the asthetic stuff we see more of these days.

Guess im just old school ;)

Time to carry-on this topic:

Eurostar:

(wouldn't be neat to design a coaster in 2D within NoLimits, using both of these views?)

Typhoon:

Vekoma SFC (the top view looks a bit distorded tho):

Zamperla Disk'o... hehe:

EDIT:

Golden Horse's freeall section patent. I mean, Broken rail roller coaster capable of presenting platform type vertical falling:

This element is featured in this coaster already:

Good quality Skyrush layout:

Rock'n'Roller Coaster elevation and speed:

(More Disney blueprints there)

I've seen the file that Shambhala/DK plan comes from. It's literally the entire resort (minus Ferrari Land). Very helpful if anyone ever decides to do a full PortAventura recreation!
