Welcome

Welcome to the NoLimits2 Christmas contest, to keep you on your toes and busy this Christmas we've designed a contest sure to do just that. With plenty of challenges and possibilities there will be something you find that works best for you here. This contest will be a mystery contest, you will be going in with very little information, any ideas you have will probably need to be rethought as this template is not forgiving in the slightest.

Date and times:
Open - 8PM GMT (3PM EST) : 12th December 2021
Closes - 12PM GMT (7PM EST) : 31st December 2021

(2.7 Weeks roughly)

This should give you enough time to celebrate the holidays as well as partake in this contest.

Contest rules:

  • The coaster style must fit within the given station with a clearance envelope. If it does not fit. Don't use it.
  • Nothing can intersect with the blue or red boundaries
  • Supports may be put inside the green funnels only if connecting to a footer on the concrete pads.
  • No footers can be placed on the ice, but coasters can pass above it
  • No footers, supports, clearance envelopes may interact with the glass dome.
  • supports must not pass through buildings or build off of buildings.
  • You may only move the station track up or down to fit the desired coaster style.
  • The surrounding area cannot be modified, such as the environment and lighting, as well as objects moved to the side in editor.
  • You may build supports on/through trees and bushes.

Judging Criteria

  • Use of space (How well the layout utilises its surroundings)
  • Realism (we are not looking for perfect shaping but we expect the ride to fall within general safety standards and true to real forces)
  • Presentation (We are looking for a well presented coaster, one that fits with the theme and doesn't obscure all of what is visible)

Presents:
Dotted around the map are presents, for an extra challenge try hit them all with you coaster, each present you hit will give you a small bonus in the scoring! To count as hitting the present, the train must pass through at least half of the present.

Keyhole:
Up for the challenge? try get your coaster through the keyhole above the station!

Useful info:

  • The concrete pads are designed to not need the footers height modified, 0.3m will be a flush fit with both pads.
  • The dome can be moved out of the way or deleted as it is a separate object.
  • Several items are actually moved to the side in editor and then brought back in during play, such as fog and santas sleigh, be mindful of them.
  • Terrain is raised to match the snow floor in the dome, if you are struggling to place footers, look directly down and try again, if not place them on the sides and move them into place.

We are not expecting large hypers for this contest as that is not the point, the point is to be able to work efficiently and space saving.

FAQ:
"Do I need to add storage track?"

  • No, you do not need to add storage track/transfer/switch.

"Do I need multiple trains?"

  • No, If your style allows for multiple trains on the circuit then great, however we will not be judging off the capacity/throughput.

"Can I change the direction of the station?"

  • Yes, you can use the element reverser or just copy the vertex positions and build it backwards if you wish to.

"Can I delete trees and scenery?"

  • No, the trees/bushes/candy canes, or any other scenery items must not be moved or deleted.

"How do I stop the track from sticking to the dome?"

  • You can delete the glass dome as it is a separate object to build inside, please remember to check regularly that the coaster still fits inside the dome.

"Can I add my own styles?"

  • You may add your own styles as long as they fit within the given station and you have a clearance envelope for the style.

"Do I have to collect the presents?"

  • No, they are there as mini challenges, you can collect as many or as little as you wish.

"Do I have to use the keyhole?"

  • No, it is just a mini challenge that you can do if you wish to.

This template looks phenomenal; seriously good job!
I don't know if I'll have time to put something together for it, but am very excited to see what others do.
Good luck to everybody!

I'm relatively new to NoLimits2 and this being my first contest. It was hard but I learned allot out of it, especially creating custom supports and learning how to keep things as compact as possible. Ultimately it was fun to create though.

Not sure if people saw, but the deadline was extended a couple hours to Midnight EST! Get those last touch ups done and send them over! We are excited to see what everyone has made!
