NOTICE: NLE has been permanently shut down
Wow, that was very fast, I did not expect that. Shame they didn't give us the time to communicate the switch, or to mention NLC or worst not give us the chance to archive anything. Ah well, fresh start is it.
That was... unexpected to say the least. I was really hoping we'd get a proper archive or something, but clearly not. I think Matt has clearly just stopped caring and wanted the site gone, to be honest. Not much to be done now, so it's a totally new beginning.
Same here. Part of my "young youthhood" is on there. Some really old and sucky coasters I made around 2011 I'd love to rescue from the garbage truck.
Seems almost like it was perfect timing for NLC to open, Make me wonder if he was just waiting for NLC to be officially open before closing off his own place finally. Whatever the case, So long to History, and hello to the future of the NL community.
^ I almost get the feeling the shutting down of NLE was in retaliation to NLC opening.
^ for sure. He probably saw the NLC was open and realized the no one would come to NLE anymore. Not really complaining.
Having spoken to Matt in the past, I know that he would never have intentionally wanted this to happen. That website was set up to replace CoasterSims when it died, most people here don't even remember those days and what Matt did was pay homage to that original site, which sadly died due to 'Real Life'.
I feel the same has happened to NLE. It was never his intention for it to die, he had big, bold plans and I remember talking to him quite a lot about it when it was in development. A chat room was planned, something which was a HUGE part of CoasterSims. He had plans for a track tennis system, heck, I was the last person to run Track Tennis and a Three Blind Mice contest. Matt had big hopes and plans for NLE and it's gone as a result of him moving on, expanding and starting his career in web development. He sadly lost the passion for what was a great website for the interim. NLC looks set to be fantastic, but let us not forget what Matt did and the sheer cost of running and hosting a website of that size. Matt did a great job and for that I thank him. I thank all those who created CoasterSims and got me into this community and helped me to expand and develop my ideas and rides (most which were never released) and I thank those who have worked hard tirelessly to develop NLC. I look forward to being a part of the community once again, it's been a few years.
Thanks Matt, next time I see you, I owe you a beer. Thanks for the great ride!
^ I feel like he was waiting until another community took hold (such as this one) to finally shut NLE down so we’d have a place to go.
I just wish he could’ve given us a warning so we could archive those old tracks that were on there.
I'd like to quickly mention I have a backup of Gaia and some other highly rated NL1 tracks. I can check the names when I arrive home.
I have also been able to find a few old NL1 tracks including gaia, ganja, ogopogo, real's recs, spez's beast and SOB recs , mineshaft and a few others.
I've taken the liberty of creating a Public Google Drive Folder to share some of the old NL1 coasters to anyone that can find them. I trust that no one will mess with any of the folder's contents.
it appears that AJClarke has uploaded all of the NL1 track used in his "This is NoLimits" series on youtube to .zip files in the description of the video, so most of the high rated tracks are still accessible there
Well that’s that I suppose. I very much so enjoyed the ride but I definitely agree the site’s seen much better days. It’s time for a new beginning.
I have Colder Fusion somewhere on my old computer. I'll see if I can dig it up.
I have a ton of the good ones too if anyone wants them uploaded. I have a good 700 NL1 files (of which about 300 are probably off NLE)
^Cold Fusion? That is one track I would LOVE to see remade for NL2
Found Colder Fusion and uploaded it to the drive! I have a ton more files that can be repackaged and uploaded as well if anyone has any requests.
Does anyone know where the install for the NL1 track packager is? These files will be essentially useless if they cannot be unpacked.
Another thing: I would like to learn FVD but I cannot download it now that NLE is shut down. Does anyone have the download link?
Lucas Bosch actually has a nice little hub for NL1 and NL2 tools, including FVD. I might try to collect some other links for the other stuff too. (Thanks for the reminder to not delete This is NoLimits stuff from my Drive lol.)
a link to download FVD has also been added to the new NL2 Mega Resource Thread along with a few FVD Tutorials
This site should be useful for looking at past archives. Shame none of us have heard about it until now. I really forgot to check what was happening on the 2017 discussion thread before NLE's shutdown. https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://forum.nolimits-exchange.com/
My habit to type NLE instead of "nolimitscentral" on the chrome search bar is still very present... lol
Glad to see that a new site is up and running :)
For my nostalgic dear friends of the NL1 community :
Gaia : https://www.dropbox.com/s/79nczh9ic7s4nm1/Gaia.nlpack (environment included)
Evenoss : https://www.dropbox.com/s/690r8pkswlafzfv/Evenoss.nlpack
Have a good time here.
^lmao why do you have an official "Lenny" label?
^Because Lenny.

Well, I don't think any of us expected this to happen so soon. Both the forum and exchange show the same message.
I wish we could've gotten this stuff archived in time. To be honest, we did not expect him to notice so quickly, or to decide to immediately close down the site. We may try to reach out and see if there's anything that can be done at this point, but I wouldn't count on it.
