I always wanted to know how this ride mechanically function. Does anyone know how the switch works?
The switching mechanism on this ride is simple.
There's a couple of metal fins attached under each gondola. Both ends of each fin have a guide roller that runs on the side of the platform surface (This guide the gondola travel in a circle. No mechanism on the turntable). At the switching point, There's the X cross-device installed. When the gondola reaches the switching point, The metal fin inserts between the gap of the X and guide its "straight" to the opposite turntable.

Oh, so there are no actively moving parts at all? Unlike the old-school models then.
Thanks for the explanation!
Exactly, Here's how it work under the turntables.
Oh wow, thank you for the video! A mystery that got me for like 10 years is finally resolved.
Your channel looks awesome too, I will have to take a look around.
I found an image of the ride base structure. The black part is a guide rail that guided the gondola to travel in a circle (a turntable just push the gondola forward). The X or switching part will be located at the center (not invisible in this picture).

Does anyone know the measurements of a Zamperla Demolition Derby?
