COMPACT GIGA COASTER COMPETITION:

An eccentric billionaire has just bought an island and wishes to built their own personal giga coaster. They are accepting applications for layouts and ideas and these are the restrictions they are imposing.

Size:

  • Permitted plot: 140m (459ft) by 140m (459ft) plot, no part of any track or supports can lie outside the boundary but they can lie on it.

Coaster Attributes

  • Minimum height 300ft/ 91.4m
  • Minimum capacity 1000rph
  • Must have a lift hill or launched lift hill, if it is launched then the launch track must incline a minimum of 45° and a maximum of 65°, and that must be the only launch.
  • Supports and layout must be plausible and realistic and fit with the manufacturer’s style or the direction they’re heading.
  • Must include at least 1 inversion
  • There must be storage space for (n-1) trains where n is the total number of trains your coaster runs. Storage and maintenance must also lie in the boundary.
  • Forces must not exceed +5g and -1.6g vertical and +/-1.4g lateral in all seats, consider this if you designed in FVD++ and your trains are long.
  • Hybrid and wooden coasters are allowed, but be aware that it may affect your supports score to just use the generator for the entire layout as there would likely be steel trusses or other support structures for taller elements

Scoring
Scoring will consist of 4 parts:

  • A track score /10 considering smoothness and elements.
  • A supports score /10 considering stability and realism.
  • A plausibility score /10 considering manufacturer realism and realism in general.
  • A design score /10 considering visual appeal and ingenuity/creativity.
  • Deductions will be 3 points for every support footer which sticks out from the edge of the boundary and 3 points for every foot/ 0.31m of track outside the boundary.
  • There will be a 3 point deduction for every clearance violation
  • There will be a 3 point bonus for a unique coaster style no one else enters with.

EDIT: Any custom trains/scenery is allowed and it may boost your design score if it improves the aesthetic of your coaster

The deadline for submissions will be midnight on Sunday 10th December 2023.

Hello, I don't want to break any rules so I'm going to ask, do we need to do scenery, or is scenery an optional addition?

EDIT: Also can I also use custom trains, and if so do I have to make them or can I use them from someone else?

thatperson4451 you can 100% use custom trains and scenery is not essential but it may boost your design score if it improves the overall aesthetic of your coaster, just keep everything inside the boundary. Hope this helps!

Hey, I'd just like to make sure that we need 1 less storage slot for the number of trains we have, e.g. 3 trains means 2 storage slots?
Edit: And will points be deducted if a tiny bit of spine of the track is touching the boundary line or not?

I have a questions abt the height, In fvd i couldnt go all the way to ground level so i had to lower and heighten some sections. Would that be cheating the 300 ft?

Dero9907 as long as the drop or difference between highest point and ground level (if your drop is not simple) is over 300ft then that's fine, I know the FVD axes are different to NL2 but if you need to raise the base of your coaster in NL2 by a couple of metres then that would be fine, as long as the lowest point of your coaster actually reaches fairly close to the ground i.e. you can't just raise the whole thing to sit 10m high so you reach the min height limit. Make sense?

Coasterpost, yes it needs a station, a queue is not compulsory nor is a custom station but if they add to your coaster's aesthetics then that will definitely increase your design score and earn points. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

question, if your footers are large are they allowed to barely go over the edge of the boundary? Its basically centered on the boundary there just so large they hang off slightly.
