Kilauea is a highly realistic B&M sit-down looper, with a layout most comparable to that of Universal's Incredible Hulk. This twinned with some highly detailed theming leads to a very cohesive and immersive experience.
TRACKWORK AND COASTER
The trackwork on this ride was generally very strong. In terms of shaping, this ride follows B&M convention very well. The Immelmann in particular seemed spot on to B&M's style - the only slightly questionable thing on this aspect is the final corkscrew being maybe a little too pointy. The ride was paced nicely, with no real sections where the ride lost momentum - however, the ending perhaps wasn't quite as impactful as the first half of the layout. There were a couple of pumps or slightly odd moments, mainly on the entrance to the cobra roll and hitting the final brakes (these were pretty minor though).
THEMING
I was surprised by how thorough the theming on this ride was! The area is set very well, with most sightlines entirely covered with custom theming. The queueline was very long, maybe a touch too long for the advertised ten minute queueline? Jokes aside, the queueline helps to explain the story nicely in a quite understandable way. There's some really nice touches in the theming, including the mask of Dabka and the animated fire effect. Some of the texturing could have used bumpmaps to improve the effect, if I'm being picky.
ENVIRONMENT
The environment for this ride is pretty nice. There's some lovely foliage work going on, with some nice rockwork and terrain mixed in. A particular highlight for me would be some of the detailed rock formations you pass through. The skybox however seemed a little fake looking - I might have done some touch ups to it in Photoshop, or played around with environment settings a little - that said, this is once again a fairly minor complaint.
Overall, I'd give this ride about 9.5 out of 10 - solid effort with many great aspects, but a few tweaks could be made.
