DAM COASTER CONTEST

DEBRIEF

Built from 1931 to 1935 on the border between Navajo and South Paiute, Boulder Dam stands among the world’s biggest manmade structures to this day, even being called the 8th wonder of the world when it opened. For decades it has provided electricity for the two states and collected and stored the water of the Thessamora river.

Its days of glory are long over however and today it is only a shadow of its former self. Ongoing maintenance and repairs were deemed too expensive, so the operation of the dam was stopped and the site was eventually abandoned...

Until Now!
We want to redevelop the land into a place for entertainment, leisure and education. And most importantly, we think it is the perfect location for a world class roller coaster, and we are open for bids!

This template was designed to encourage out-of-the-box, atypical coasters that aren’t suited for flat ground. A coaster doesn’t need to cover the entire template (or be extremely long) to score high marks. While planning the layout, always consider where footers can be placed - this will make supporting that layout so much easier.

This template requires you to download and install a mod. The file can be found in the Dam Contest Folder below.

Smoothness: 10pts
Realism: 10pts

Supports: 20pts
Stability: 10pts
Details: 10pts

Use of Template 20pts
Landscape integration: 10pts
Aesthetics: 10pts

DEDUCTIONS
clearance violation with trains clearance envelope: 7pts (per violation)
clearance violation with track or supports: 5pts
footer in unsuitable location: 5pts (per footer)
breaks ASTM limits: 15pts
station or storage tracks are/go outside of station area: 10pts
queue and/or exit path not properly connected or nonexistent 5pts
not enough checkpoint areas hit: 7pts (per missed area)
coaster doesn’t enter canyon area 12pts

BONUSES
unique coaster type nobody else picked: 3pts
tallest drop among real life coasters (incl. Falcon’s Flight): 5pts
tallest drop among all submissions: 2pts
fastest coaster among all submissions: 2pts
theming: get back up to 10 deducted points
